With a history that spans over 60 years, investigation and appraisal work has been a core part of our business since the beginning.
Our approach continually adapts as legislation evolves and changes, meaning that clients can rely on our thorough and comprehensive understanding of any regulations and constraints on their behalf.
 Our Approach:
Preliminary Risk Assessment – review of information, inspection, and initial structural risk assessment
Detailed Risk Assessment – inspections, surveys, monitoring and testing, and more detailed structural risk assessment
Management and Remediation Strategy
We are one of the UK's leading consultancies in identifying, assessing and managing RAAC. Our approach and methodology is developed in response to the latest industry guidance and we have multiple registered RAAC specialists who act as advisors to the IStructE.Â
Our clients come to us for our robust, accurate and reliable approach, and the organisations we work with include Government Departments and Estates teams in the NHS, the Department for Education, Local Authorities, and Blue Light organisations.
We offer the service of ‘RAAC Advisors’; providing structural engineering consultancy to support our clients' strategic brief and project protocols. Our relationship goes well beyond the initial stages though, and we can work together with our clients to provide training and support for the ongoing project management.
We help clients to meet the requirements of the Building Safety Act. This includes initial surveys and desktop studies, external visual inspections, exploratory intrusive investigations, testing and reporting.
We also provide advisory services on the structural failure elements of the Building Safety Case documentation. This can be used for submission to the Building Safety Regulator.
Forty years ago we wrote the very first licensed repair scheme, and since then our approach to innovative and cost-effective solutions for non-traditional and high-rise housing has continued to build meaning we are leaders in the sector.
Our national team of experts have been instrumental in the development of alternative forms of repair for non-traditional (low, medium) and high-rise housing, and we continue improve safety and extend the design life of these types of buildings.
Since the 1980's we have investigated and repaired over 50,000 dwellings, and carried out over 250,000 property stock condition surveys.
Our innovation for pre-cast Large Panel System (LPS) high-rise buildings removes the potential risk of disproportionate collapse in the event of gas explosions, which adversely affects this form of construction. Our solution requires the decant of certain floors only, rather than the whole block, and results in a significantly safer, warmer, more attractive, and sustainable place to live, with improved thermal performance.
Curtins’ are the focus of a five-page spread in the IHEEM Health Estate Journal, highlighting the potential issues of RAAC.
