Project Overview
This project had sustainability at its core and comprised a new Passivhaus extension to the existing school, doubling the capacity of pupils.
The new building has been designed with a combination of concrete and an engineered timber frame to balance the thermal mass of the building, provide effective M&E service routing, and reduce the embodied carbon of the structure.
By employing our Carbon Toolkit during the concept stage, we were able to assess the embodied carbon impact of the proposed structural frames to achieve a solution that met the client’s low carbon targets.
The Challenge
The ground conditions on site were poor and the project needed to achieve Passivhaus standards.
Our Solution
We worked closely with the architect to provide a foundation solution that accommodates poor ground conditions, whilst achieving the thermal requirements of Passivhaus.
