Project Overview
The RNLI Hovercraft Station built upon the sea bed at Morecambe Bay accommodates the D-Class boat, vital rescue equipment, a retail souvenir outlet, changing facilities and showers for the Crew.
The building comprises of RC raft-box foundations with a substantial retaining wall that extends towards a new external hardstanding. The drainage is enclosed in concrete below the floor slab with linking reinforcement. The superstructure is a double curved tubular steel frame design with bespoke-cut stonework and a mechanically zipped aluminium standing-seam roof.

The Challenge
With its proximity to the coast, the raft was at risk of flooding.
Our Solution
Curtins designed a substantial retaining wall that extends towards a new external hardstanding.
