Project Overview
A full restoration of a Victorian public house for Thatchers Cider in Somerset, taking it from a building at near collapse to a popular Cider House and Kitchen, at the heart of Sandford Village.
As an important building in the community, it was important that the as much of the original frontage was retained. The rear 62-seat restaurant comprises a green-oak, glazed barn structure, and much of the materials throughout were locally sourced.
The Challenge
The country pub building had stood in the village for over 140 years and required careful retrofitting to protect its history.
Our Solution
Our engineers worked with the original historic fabric, conserving it where possible and introducing new structures where additional strength was required. Significant use was made of exposed feature steelwork with highly detailed joints to blend with Victorian railway engineering and new stonework.
