Project Overview
Replacing Park House on the North Manchester General Hospital site is a new 150-bed adult mental health inpatient unit (AMHU), with associated access, parking, soft and hard landscaping. Cut and fill was required to create a development platform for the erection of the building.
Curtins produced a Materials Management Plan and supervised the works across a 12-week programme enabling re-use of approximately 17,240m3 of site won materials which would otherwise have been sent to landfill. Our environmental and geotechnical services on the £105m project included:
Phase 1 Preliminary Risk Assessment
Phase 2 Ground Investigation
Design Statement
Qualified Person Declaration
Earthworks Specification
Waste Classification
Part Time Supervision for 4 Months
The Challenge
The project was to be delivered on an active hospital site, with ground investigations taking place during the COVID 19 pandemic and no prior site investigation information.
Our Solution
Through our Materials Management Plan, we were able to reduce the amount of soils removed from site, saving the client up to £1 million in disposal and import costs. We provided daily updated to the contractor and were available for next day site visits when required, which ensured the delivery of this large earthworks project.
