Project Overview
The project comprises of a replacement car park, a security gatehouse with staff facilities, a reception building and better site access for the new GlaxoSmithKline bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Ulverston.
The development has greatly improved both pedestrian and vehicular access, as well as vehicle marshalling facilities at the site.
Extensive adoptable highway works were undertaken to provide a new road layout surrounding the site, which included a roundabout. The central single storey security gatehouse and reception facilities feature a blend of high-tech elements and locally sourced traditional materials. The buildings are linked by an adjoining aluminium faced canopy roof and comprise a thick raft foundation, steel frame structure and external cavity walls.
The scheme has also expanded the publicly accessible memorial gardens to improve pedestrian paths and enhance the wildlife habitat.
The Challenge
Extensive adoptable highway works to provide a new road layout surrounding the site.
Our Solution
Our civils team provided a road layout design that met the council's requirements and achieved a road adoption agreement.
