Kamal Fuller Contributes to IStructE RAAC Training Course

Kamal Fuller, Structural Engineer in our Leeds office has contributed to the IStructE’s on-demand course on ‘RAAC Essentials for Structural Engineers’.

Through the 3-Module programme, participants will learn how to identify, assess, manage and remediate reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) defects in buildings.

Course outline

  • Module 1: History, design standards and defects of RAAC

  • Module 2: Surveys and investigations, assessment, reporting, health and safety, report writing

  • Module 3: Remediation, monitoring, and risk mitigation

Former track and field athlete turned engineer, Kamal earned a BSc at the University of Alabama, then a dual master’s degree in civil and structural engineering from Leeds Beckett and the University of Leeds.

Kamal began RAAC work as a graduate at Airedale General Hospital, where Curtins have been carrying out analysis of removed RAAC planks in collaboration with BRE and Loughborough University. Kamal’s experience of surveying its condition and RC structure has contributed to the development of this course.
